Valletta, is Malta’s capital city. It is named after its founder, the Grand Master of the Order of St. John, Jean Parisot de Valette.
This fortified city was built on the Mount Sciberras peninsula which rises above the Marsamxett Harbour and the Grand Harbour. The foundation stone of Valletta was laid by La Valette in the year 1566. Valletta was completed in the short time of 15 years.
Valletta is rich in sites to see and explore: historical buildings, museums, churches. Narrow side streets are full of quaint shops and cafés, while Valletta’s main streets are lined with international shops for fashion, jewellery and much more.
The best way to get around and see Valletta is on foot. A must see are Valletta’s beautiful gardens, The Upper Barrakka Gardens, Hastings Gardens, the Lower Barrakka Gardens and St John’s Co-Cathedral.
